The above monument is located at the Community Buffalo Soldier Memorial, at Memorial Park, Colorado Springs and is one of those being consider for the Tucson Buffalo Soldier Memorial.
BUFFALO SOLDIER MEMORIAL DESCRIPTION

Type of Memorial:  History of the Buffalo Soldiers

Memorial Location:  The memorial will be located just in plaza area adjacent to Quincey Douglas Neighborhood Center.

Memorial Features and Descriptions:  The memorial will display the rich history of honorable service of the Buffalo Soldiers in settling Arizona and the Southwestern United States.  Here are some of the planned features:

  • A trapzoid shaped granite monument displaying a snapshot of Buffalo Soldier history on the front. Side panels displaying the Arizoa map showing the locations of Buffalo Soldier units service, and photo inlays of the three Buffalo Soldiers who earned the Medal of Honor in Arizona. The rear of the monument photo inlays showing the pictures and bios of Henry Flipper and Charles Young
  • Site markers and/or pedtals displaying the history of the 9th and 10th (Horse) Calvaries and the 24th and 25th Infantries Regiments.
  • Appropriate artwork depicting Buffalo Soldier history
  • Interactive kiosk.
  • Buffalo Soldier benches.
